UNDP Programme Team Leader
Peter-John Meynell is a freshwater biologist by training with experience in conservation and development projects in many wetlands of the world, including the Indus Delta, Zambezi (Victoria Falls), Okavango Delta, as well as in the Mekong. He has considerable experience in environmental impact assessment, including strategic EA, biodiversity aspects, dams and trans-boundary situations. He also has an MSc in Agricultural Extension and has used this in sustainable livelihood projects.
Dr. Richard Friend
IUCN Programme Manager
Richard Friend has a background in social anthropology and development studies, and has worked in East Asia for over fifteen years. Much of this work has focused on livelihoods and policy dimensions of natural resource management, particularly wetlands and freshwater fisheries.
Dr. Charlotte MacAlister
MRC Programme Manager
Charlotte MacAlister is an eco-hydrologist with experience of wetland ecosystems in East Asia, North America and Europe. Her academic background bridges the science of soil-plant-water relations and Integrated Water Resource Management with practical conservation and equitable resource use from farm to regional level. She has extensive field experience in tropical and temperate systems and has worked as an advisor to governments in the Northern and Southern hemisphere. Charlotte is the Aquatic Ecosystems Specialist within the Mekong River Commission's Environment Program.
Madhusudan Bhattarai has over 10 years of work experience as an applied policy economist. He has worked in IWMI, Sri Lanka, wherein he worked on irrigation impact and water sector policy issues, water resources management in a River Basin scale, and cross-cutting issues on irrigation-development-environment sectors at global scale. He has long years of experience on assessment of economic impact of project, and interaction between development and environment sectors. In the past, he has worked in Nepal, India, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and in USA.
Alvin Lopez is the Wetland Ecologist for the MWBP. He has a first degree in Environmental Biology and a MSc. in Conservation Biology. He has had over seven years of professional involvement in field nature conservation work. Alvin has worked closely with the secretariats of the international Multi-lateral environmental agreements, especially the Convention on Wetlands and the Convention on Migratory Species.
Nguyen Thi Bich
Bich has a Bachelor degree in Fisheries Economics and six years experience as a Social Economist working closely with local communities, authorities and partners in dealing with fisheries co-managament. Previously she also worked with the MRC Fisheries Programme as a Junior Programme Officer for three years.
Douangtri (Nee) has a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Diploma of Secretarial Majority. She has four years experience working in a secretarial role with organisations such as
the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA),
Alliance Investment Consulting Company Co. Ltd and other Lao companies.
